Vinyl Record Bowl

Do you have old vinyl records laying around collecting dust?  My guess is, if you don't own  a record player you will probably never use them again.
So, here is a new use for an old thing.

This is something I did several years ago at my daughter's slumber party. It was a fun activity for the girls and they each got to take home a vinyl record bowl.  If you don't have any vinyl records at home they are readily available at thrift stores
and garage sales.

If you have a record player, be sure to crank up your favorite tunes
on the turn table while you make this fun project.

It is very simple.....

Supplies you will need:  vinyl record, glass bowl, cookie sheet, pot holders, and oven.

Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees.

Take your glass bowl and place it upside down on your cookie sheet

Place your record centered on the bowl

Place the cookie sheet in the oven.
Don't walk away, your record  will begin to melt very quickly (within seconds) and it is fun to watch!

After about 20 seconds remove the cookie sheet from the oven and quickly shape your record using the bowl as your form.  Be sure to use pot holders when touching the record.

Leave the record hanging over the bowl until cooled.  It will cool rather quickly.  If you don't like the shape you can return it to the oven for another 15 - 20 seconds and try again.

And there you have it  - a record bowl!

Perfect for sharing wrapped snacks or holding your trinkets and treasures.
(I would not recommend using the bowl to serve unwrapped food.)

Orange Peel Stars

I wanted to share something I like to do with orange peels.
Simple and easy.....

Begin with your orange and a star cookie cutter.

Try and peel your orange in one large piece.

Press the cookie cutter into the peel trying to get as many stars as possible.

Out of this clementine peel I was able to cut 8 stars.

After I cut out the stars I just throw them in a small bowl that is sitting on top
of my microwave until they dry out.

Once I have a large number of dried stars I use them as accent pieces around candles.
Here I have a wooden bowl filled with orange peel stars and coffee beans.
It smells sooo good!
